p>Bendigo residents were quick to take up an offer to hear all about draught proofing your house last weekend, when over 30 people attended a DIY workshop held by Refit n’ Save.
Maurice Beinat, from EcoMaster, explained that we spend 60% of our energy requirements on heating and cooling our living spaces. So while the installation of energy efficient lights and solar hot water are terrific money saving ventures in our houses, after insulation is the need to seal all gaps.
Maurice shared personal experiences with excruciatingly costly energy bills, dating back to 2003 when he topped the scales at a $2500 energy bill! He has since fitted his house with door and window seals and installed solar panels, double glazing and additional insulation. As a result, his home has zero emissions and no costly energy bills.
Many people attended the seminar having already started making their homes more energy efficient. Some had been advised by Central Victoria Solar Cities, when they had their free home energy assessment, to invest in draught proofing their homes.
Refit n’ Save is an initiative that you can join for free, that is providing home owners with energy saving ideas. You can also access free workshops, home energy assessments and independent advice about sustainable products.
The Refit n' Save project is supported by the Victorian Government Sustainability Fund and managed by Sustainability Victoria.
Refit n’ Save in Bendigo has negotiated great rates on solar hot water systems for just $2,160 (after rebates), a 10% discount from Ecomaster DIY draught proofing products, and a heat shifter fan supplied and installed by a local electrician for $500.
